Catherine Waterfalls is a major tourist spot located 8 km away from Kotagiri. It is a double-cascaded waterfall. The water falls from a height of 250ft, which makes it the second-largest waterfall in Nilgiri Mountains. It is under the control of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
It is said that Catherine Waterfall might be named after Catherine, the wife of M.D.Cockburn. He was the person who introduced the coffee plantation in Kotagiri. “Geddhehadda Halla” is the native name of this falls. The meaning of this word is “Foothills Dale River”.
A viewpoint is available in Catherine Waterfalls from where you can spot these falls. You can enjoy the greenery and natural beauty surrounding this area. The entire view of these waterfalls can be seen by climbing the Dolphin Nose.
